What is the Process?

After moving to a new state, you are required to obtain a new driver’s license in that state to accurately reflect your address. To get started, determine which entity is responsible for issuing driver’s licenses in your new state. The Department/Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) are the two most common, but there are several more to choose from. A quick internet search can tell you the name of your state’s entity, or you can find that information below. After you find your state, gather the following required documents:

Two forms of identification (One can be your valid, unexpired out-of-state license)
Proof of your social security number (Social security card, W2 form, etc.)
Proof of your new address (Utility bill with your name on it, etc.)
